Restoring oceans, reviving hope — one community, one hand, one action at a time.

Life in My Hands Initiative (LiMHi) is a youth-led movement dedicated to protecting our oceans and empowering coastal communities through grassroots advocacy, environmental education, and restorative action. We believe that every hand holds the power to heal our planet — starting from the shores.

Coastal Mapping for Action

Mapping Pollution, Empowering Communities. We’re using CyberGIS and community insights to map marine pollution hotspots in Lagos’ coastal communities — starting with Makoko, Epe and Badagry. This project merges local knowledge with tech to promote data-driven advocacy and civic accountability in areas most impacted by plastic and marine waste.

Marine Education in Schools

Raising the Next Generation of Ocean Stewards. We visit secondary schools to introduce students to marine conservation, climate resilience, and the vital role they play as coastal citizens. Through storytelling, games, and interactive sessions, we make ocean education accessible, fun, and unforgettable.

Waste-to-Wealth Transformation

Turning Trash into Treasure. This initiative empowers local artisans and youths to creatively upcycle waste materials into reusable products — from fashion accessories to eco-friendly household items. We’re proving that sustainable living can be both practical and profitable.

Cleanup Campaigns & Community Revivals

Restoring Our Shores, Together. Through hands-on cleanups, sensitization drives, and partnerships with local leaders, we reclaim polluted shorelines and restore dignity to neglected communities. Our Makoko Waterfront Revival is just one example of people-powered restoration in action.

Youth Mobilization & Volunteer Network

Hands That Heal the Ocean. LiMHi runs a growing volunteer network of young changemakers who champion our mission in their communities. From organizing local drives to leading education sessions, these youth are our boots on the ground — and hearts in the fight.

Advocacy & Policy Engagement

From Coastal Voices to Policy Tables. We engage policymakers, researchers, and environmental stakeholders to amplify community concerns, advocate for inclusive policies, and ensure that solutions are built with — not just for — the people most affected by marine pollution.

Featured Causes

These causes represent the heart of our mission — restoring oceans, empowering communities, and turning challenges into opportunities for lasting impact.

Testimonials

Real voices. Lasting impact. Hear how our work is transforming lives and communities.

Participating in the Makoko cleanup opened my eyes to how much difference we can make when we come together. Despite the rain and challenges, I felt proud being part of something so meaningful. LiMHi inspired me to take ocean protection personally
Blessing O., NYSC Volunteer
Before the session, I didn’t know how plastic waste in water affects fish and people. Now I want to tell my friends and help clean our environment. I also want to learn more about how to protect the ocean.
Precious A., Student, Lagos State Baptist Secondary School
Seeing how waste can be turned into useful items was eye-opening. I didn’t know you could make bags or mats from plastic wrappers. I hope LiMHi returns with more trainings so more women can learn and earn from it.
